Workshop Update: Still Workin’

Yesterday, as I was drawing at The Conservatory, I was just awe-struck by the beautiful plants in bloom in the hot house. I felt really blessed to have access to the work of master gardeners. I was sketching and thinking about negative space– that creating negative space in an object is just as important as the object itself… and that when you are drawing, it’s important to not be so literal– to remember that you are creating an optical illusion of sorts my re-creating a 3D object on a 2D page. There is a special delicate-nature that you almost have to imagine and feel it rather than see the object literally.

Yesterday, I finished a mini-painting– to be shown next month, and I also started a larger one– also to be shown next month in another Virtual Art Show. This show is probably going to be my most favorite yet!

About Rachel Heu

"Creativity is an act of defiance. You're challenging the status quo. You're questioning accepted truths and principles. You're asking three universal questions that mock conventional wisdom: Why do I have to obey the rules? Why can't I be different? Why can't I do it my way?" --Twyla Tharp, The Creative Habit: Learn It and Use It For Life (pg. 133)
