This is a DIY art project! The bare basics that you need are a black sharpie and some index cards. That’s really all that you need to get started in making Your 35 Words. The idea is that you want to think about your future and what is important to you; these words should be an extension of what you see your ideal life to include in the future. It helps to do some preliminary work by making a list on notebook paper with a pencil or ballpoint pen so that you can really let your mind brainstorm– words that you like; words that you use often. Then, it makes it easier to prioritize which ones are most important to you.
The idea is that you can keep these somewhere where you are able to look at them regularly as a reminder of the direction that you are going, you may even want to post a couple at your desk. Basically, after you write your word on the cards in marker, you’re basically done… but if you want to go a step further… You can incorporate painting, drawing, scrapbooking, collage, stickers… there is so much more you can add that I haven’t even thought of yet—let me know if you think of something. The idea is to make it fun! Have a good time! Remember that it’s not about being perfect!
So now you have a pretty good idea about how to get started. I really want you to take this and run with it because these words are now your map to happiness. If you come up with any questions along the way, feel free to ask a question in the comment field below– ‘cause other people probably have the same question but are sometimes shy to ask.
I took off in my own, unique direction, as I’m sure you will. However, I do want to give Catherine Follette of The Centerpoint Institute credit for helping me start this exercise. Now go make some cards!!!!!
