Sketch Diaries: Sunflower!

Sunflower and Purple

Sunflower and Purple

Watercolor has always been the foundation (in my case), but then I like to add another medium in lots of times– like water soluble pastel and watercolor colored pencils… I’ve been leaning more and more towards all types of wet media. The variations you can get mixing the different media and then playing with the degree of how much you wash the surface versus working with a dry surface– That’s what I did here.

5″x7″ watercolor, water soluble pastel on canson illustration board, sunflower from my Sketch Diaries.

About Rachel Heu

"Creativity is an act of defiance. You're challenging the status quo. You're questioning accepted truths and principles. You're asking three universal questions that mock conventional wisdom: Why do I have to obey the rules? Why can't I be different? Why can't I do it my way?" --Twyla Tharp, The Creative Habit: Learn It and Use It For Life (pg. 133)
