About Rachel Heu

"Creativity is an act of defiance. You're challenging the status quo. You're questioning accepted truths and principles. You're asking three universal questions that mock conventional wisdom: Why do I have to obey the rules? Why can't I be different? Why can't I do it my way?" --Twyla Tharp, The Creative Habit: Learn It and Use It For Life (pg. 133)

I love that too. I am going to take that motto for my personal own.

    • Rachel Heu says:

Mom (Betty)– (The book is brilliant) — or as one of my watercolor teachers called it: A Happy Accident… they will surprise you but maybe don’t write them off right away. Good motto for sure. –Rachel

  2. Cheerful and happy. I’m from Indianapolis and we need that today. Nice work!

Thank you for the kind feedback, Linda 🙂

So Twyla Tharp talks about how it’s good to have a plan when you’re working, but one “can never fully map things out”… that you have to see the changes in your plan as “strokes of luck rather than a disturbance”. …and she says that “Habitually creative people are, in E.B. White’s phrase,’prepared to be lucky’.” Hence, the name of the painting. (From the book, The Creative Habit: Learn It and Use It for Life”. I love that!
