An Art Family: Betty Baldwin

“It was because the spirits of the ancestors inside me that I became a dancer.”

–Twyla Tharp quoting Sina Koy (p. 69) in The Creative Habit: Learn It and Use It For Life

Creativity is ingrained in our family for generations. There is something beyond an artist that compels an artist to create. It’s bigger than us. When we make art, we feel at peace. In honor of that thought, today, I am delighted to show you a postcard that Betty Baldwin (my Mom!) sketched and sent to me awhile ago. Recently, I started to teach her and my brother how to use watercolor. I love this! One of my students called us “an Art Family”!

About Rachel Heu

"Creativity is an act of defiance. You're challenging the status quo. You're questioning accepted truths and principles. You're asking three universal questions that mock conventional wisdom: Why do I have to obey the rules? Why can't I be different? Why can't I do it my way?" --Twyla Tharp, The Creative Habit: Learn It and Use It For Life (pg. 133)
